Spy Shots: Opel Adam caught undisguised at a photo shoot

Opel Adam

The new and not-yet-revealed Opel Adam was taken to a Spanish technology park for a photo shoot, and there it was caught by an unofficial photo crew sent by our sister site Autoblog Spanish. It was described as looking like a cross between an Opel Corsa and an Audi A1 in the metal. There appears to be some French inspiration as well, especially the front end. Unless the light deceives, in-house cribbing comes in the Insignia-like swage line along the door, and we do hope that those wheels are offered on the production version.

A reminder, the Adam is six inches longer than the Volkswagen Up! but still shorter than the Opel Agila. We'd read that the electric version of the hatch had been canceled, but according to Italian site CarPasion.it, the EV will be one of three trim lines: the electric Adam Jam, more elegant Adam Glam and the sporty Adam Slam. Eventually it will have three-cylinder engines co-developed with SAIC underhood, but there could be powerplants from the Corsa line offered at launch.

The Adam should be in showrooms next spring for less than €10,000 ($13,000 USD). Before that, we'll see it unveiled at the Paris Motor Show.

Lexus adding over 150,000 RX crossovers to pedal entrapment recall, may face NHTSA investigation [UPDATE]

2010 Lexus RX 450h

Remember the giant Toyota pedal entrapment recalls that all started in late 2009? Well, it's not over yet. No, we aren't just talking about the various lawsuits that the automaker still faces in connection with the recalls, we're talking about yet another set of vehicles that are being added to the list. Welcome to the gang, 2010 Lexus RX 350 and RX 450h.

Toyota states that the duo of Lexus crossovers are being recalled for "unsecured or incompatible floor mat entrapment of the accelerator pedal." In total, 154,000 RX models are affected by this latest addendum to the recall - 131,800 RX 350 and 22,200 RX 450h vehicles.

Between the two different pedal entrapment cases, Toyota has now recalled around 7.8 million vehicles.

The automaker will notify customers via first class mail beginning in August. Concerned owners can contact the manufacturer directly at 1.800.255.3987 or visit lexus.com/recall for more information. Scroll down to read the official press release.

UPDATE: According to the International Business Times, the National Highway Traffic Safety administration may consider launching an investigation on Toyota "regarding delays in notifying the agency about the problem." The government agency released a statement saying, "NHTSA is requesting additional documentation from the manufacturer and is considering opening an investigation into whether Toyota met its obligation to notify the agency and conduct a recall in a timely manner."

Renault Alpine A110-50 Concept Races Original Alpine A110 [Video]

Father-son battles are always fun to watch and Renault today gifted us with an extremely exciting one, with the carmaker offering us a clip that shows the new Alpine A110-50 Concept racing the car it pays homage to, the original A110 Berlinette.

The 2012 and the 1962 Alpines are battling out in the mountains, carving the canyons in a very, very expressive way. The cars don’t just accelerate and corner hard, they also play all ki...

Official: McLaren Automotive looks back on its first year

McLaren MP4-12C in Abu Dhabi

It's been one heck of a first year for McLaren Automotive. Since setting up shop twelve months ago, the Formula One team's new sportscar-making unit has sold over 1,000 examples of the MP4-12C supercar, but that's not the sum total of its achievements.

To get there, McLaren set up a global network of 38 brand-spanking-new dealerships in a total of 22 countries, including those in Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Asia-Pacific and right here in North America.

The newest British automaker orchestrated it all from its new facility in Woking, right next door to the F1 team's headquarters, which was officially opened by the British prime minister. And while it was at it, McLaren also set up the Special Operations division to build even more unique versions of its supercars like the High Sport, as well as its own racing division to handle the MP4-12C GT3 that's taking on racing series around the world. Oh, and Macca rolled out an upgrade of the 12C while it was still in its infancy as well.

Not bad for a year's work, and we can't wait to see what next year brings. Recent rumors have included a roadster version of the 12C and even a supposed shooting brake of some sort in the works, but the biggest splash will be made when the successor to the mighty McLaren F1 jumps into the pool. Watch this space.

Opel Astra OPC Sports Tourer Rendering

Technically speaking the Astra OPC is a three-door hatchback, but Opel are always going to call it a coupe. It features all the trick suspension developed for the Insignia OPC, as well as a powerful 2.0-liter 280 horsepower engine.

It’s biggest problems are the fact that it’s not a global car, like the Ford Focus ST, and it’s not cheap, like the Megane RS. But what about the fact that the new hot Focus ...

Lexus Explains The All New GS 450h: Video

For years, hybrid automobiles were purchased by those who cared more about fuel economy than driving. While a Toyota Prius or a Honda Insight may be frugal (especially for long commutes), neither serves up anything resembling entertainment value when the road gets twisty. Times are changing, and even enthusiast drivers are concerned about fuel...

Photographer's Blog: This is No Sport for Old Men

Sometimes the guy in 6th place gets there with such style that his story is more compelling, more inspiring, and more enjoyable than the victor's. For me, the biggest story of Silverstone 2012 starts at least as early as Donington in 2008. James Toseland showed up to his home race in his rookie G.P. year to find the expected amount of media attention. It seemed in the days leading up the race that Toseland was on every front page in the country, and it also seemed impossible for any literate person in the U.K. not to know he was the local boy in the coming race at Donington Park. Not shy on courage, Toseland wore the English flag on his shoulders, literally, by appearing on Sunday in custom white leathers adorned with the red cross of St. George.

What unfolded as the race began was painful to watch, even as a foreigner. Toseland charged into the first turn at Redgate and crashed. He gathered himself and his bike up and continued on, far behind the race for the victory, but was cheered as he made his lonely way from grandstand to grandstand. At least local hopes for a good result had not been made to suffer for long.
