Official: 2014 Acura MDX priced from $42,290*
Filed under: Car Buying, Crossover, Acura, Luxury
The fully redesigned 2014 MDX goes on sale in July, and Acura has now confirmed that its largest crossover will be priced at $42,290 (*plus $895 for destination). Unlike previous MDX models, Acura will offer the 2014 model with both front- and all-wheel drive (the automaker's fantastic Super-Handling All-Wheel Drive, at that), and this base price is for the standard, two-wheel-drive MDX model. At the base level, this new pricing represents a $990 decrease over the outgoing, AWD-only 2013 model.
Four trim levels will be offered across the range, all of which use Acura's direct-injected 3.5-liter V6 engine good for 290 horsepower and 267 pound-feet of torque, mated to a six-speed automatic transmission. Standard features include things like push-button start, Acura's fancy new Jewel Eye LED headlights, the next-generation AcuraLink system, an eight-inch multi-function display screen, blind spot monitoring and a premium sound system.
Moving up from there, the Technology package ($46,565) gains 19-inch wheels (18s are standard), forward collision warning, lane departure warning, a color TFT display, rain-sensing wipers and more. The Entertainment Package (bundled into one $48,565 model) adds rear seat entertainment to all of that. At the top end, the MDX Advance model gets unique wheels, remote engine start, 12-speaker ELS premium audio, adaptive cruise control and more. Adding Super-Handling All-Wheel Drive to any of these models results in a $2,000 price jump.
We'll be posting our full First Drive of the MDX later today, so stay tuned for even more details and impressions at that time. In the meantime, click through our massive high-res gallery above to see plenty of pretty new MDX photos.

Report: BMW, Audi lead the pack on misrepresenting CO2 figures in Europe
Filed under: MPG, Audi, BMW, Volkswagen, Legislation and Policy, Germany
BMW and Volkswagen are taking differing political tacks to address stricter European emissions standards that will kick in by the end of the decade, but the two German automakers appear to be moving in lockstep when it comes to not reporting accurate CO2 emissions numbers.
Bimmer and VW's Audi division are apparently the worst offenders at underreporting fleetwide emissions, says Reuters, citing a report by the non-profit International Council on Clean Transportation (ICCT).
The emissions numbers that BMW reports are about 30 percent below real-world results, while Audi's figures are about 28 percent less than what its cars are actually spewing, according to the ICCT report. Overall, automakers are underreporting emissions by about 25 percent, compared to about a 10-percent fudge factor a decade ago. Hybrid leader Toyota underestimates its cars' emissions by 15 percent.
German automakers' approach to tightening fuel-economy standards has been topical because of the companies' various public-relations approaches. Volkswagen and leaders of the environmental group Greenpeace in April agreed to bury the hatchet after VW, long accused of misrepresenting fuel-economy gains by its diesel cars, pledged to cut fleetwide emissions to meet Europe's standards for 2020.
BMW, on the other hand, has been squawking about the challenge of meeting such standards, saying earlier this month that it was "impossible" to do so without government financial assistance towards advanced-powertrain technology.

Honda Releases First Image Of Production Racer MotoGP Machine - And It Looks Familiar
Honda Racing Corporation today issued the first photo of their Production Racer, to be sold to MotoGP teams for the 2014 season.
The photo was taken during the Motegi test at which Honda, Yamaha and Suzuki participated, which also featured the first semi-public run out of Suzuki's MotoGP machine. While times were reported by German-language website Speedweek, (see our time comparison here), no times were available for Honda's production racer. Honda comments only in a press release (see below) that the results were 'more than what we had expected' in the words of HRC Vice President Shuhei Nakamoto.
