BMW's upcoming electric vehicle, the Megacity, will rely upon the use of high-tech carbon fiber to keep weight in check, thereby improving its performance and range. However, the Megacity's radical design, which incorporates an extensive amount of carbon fiber reinforced plastic, a corrosion-resistant aluminum chassis and the necessary electric-drive components (i.e. an electric motor, a battery pack and advanced powertrain controllers) will reportedly lead to BMW pricing the Megacity above the Nissan Leaf.

According to a report from Autocar, BMW's Megacity will be "expensive." Autocar's unnamed source claims that, "BMW is a premium product and electric mobility will not be cheap." Over in the UK, the Nissan Leaf costs £23,350 ($37,145 U.S. at the current exchange rate) after the government's £5,000 rebate. Reports of the Megacity commanding a price premium over the Leaf should shock no one. The Megacity is, after all, a BMW.
