2011 Opel Corsa
Aside from unveiling the production Ampera extended-range plug-in hybrid at the Geneva Motor Show, European automaker Opel highlighted two other fuel-efficient models: the Corsa 1.3 CDTI ecoFlex and the Astra 1.3 CDTI ecoFLEX, both of which are now available with the firm's fuel-saving stop/start technology.
The Corsa ecoFLEX sports a 1.3-liter diesel engine that puts out 95 horsepower. The Corsa, when equipped with that pint-sized oil-burning mill and stop/start technology, returns a combined fuel economy rating of 67.2 miles per gallon (U.S.) and emits 94 grams per kilometer of CO2.
The Opel Astra 1.3 CDTI ecoFLEX, in five-door hatchback form, emits 104 g/km of CO2 emissions and returns 60 mpg (U.S.). Meanwhile, the Astra Sport Tourer model manages a combined 57.3 mpg (U.S.) and emits 109 g/km of CO2.
Opel's lineup of stop/start-equipped models include the Agila, Corsa and Astra. The automaker plans to offer this fuel-saving tech on its Meriva, Zafira and Insignia by year's end.
