In late May, Waste Management (WM) celebrated the opening of a compressed natural gas (CNG) fueling station in Wheeling, IL. That facility, equipped with 40 filing bays, is used to fuel WM's six CNG-powered vehicles that operate in the Chicago area. Now, WM is back at it again. This time 'round, the trash and waste removal specialist is celebrating the grand opening of its public-access CNG fueling station in Camden, NJ.
In addition to servicing WM's 14 CNG-powered vehicles, the fueling station in Camden will provide the general public with easy access to CNG. Operated by Petrocard, the self-service station will be open 24/7. Current pump prices for CNG are approximately $1.79 per gasoline gallon equivalent (GGE). Yeah, that's cheap.
This fueling station is a critical step that will allow WM's CNG fleet in NJ to grow to 45 by the end of the summer. The 45-unit fleet will, according to WM, yield an emissions reduction equivalent to taking 3,500 gasoline-fueled vehicles off the road.
