Genencor mixes up enzyme cocktail to boost cellulosic ethanol production

Genecor logeInternational enzyme development firm Genencor, a division of Danisco A/S, has announced it's now mixing up the fourth enzyme cocktail in its trademarked Accellerase line. Called Accellerase Trio, Genencor says that this latest enzyme is designed to boost production of cellulosic ethanol from non-food feedstocks. More specifically, Accellerase Trio is an enzyme cocktail optimized to break down C5 and C6 sugars in biomass feedstocks, improving cellulosic ethanol yields by up to 20 percent over Genencor's previous enzyme, Accellerase Duet.

Enzyme costs and dosage requirements have presented a challenge for cellulosic ethanol producers. Since launching its Accellerase line back in 2007, Genencor has worked 'round the clock to improve its enzyme packages. It's worth pointing out that both Danisco A/S and Genencor just so happen to be subsidiaries of some mega-corporation that does business under the name DuPont.
