For the 2011 model year, Toyota will rip apart everything that made the Highlander Hybrid a solid mid-size crossover and revamp the vehicle both inside and out in an attempt to improve it. The plethora of exterior updates includes an all-new hood, fenders and front fascia, as well as a unique grille and redesigned front bumper. On the inside, the Highlander now features standard three-row seating and a host of optional items like Bluetooth connectivity, a USB port and XM radio.

But when we talk hybrids, it's what's under the hood that matters most. The 2011 Hybrid Highlander comes packing an all-new 3.5-liter V6 engine, replacing the outdated 3.3-liter mill. With the assistance of the electric motor, combined power output jumps from the previous-gen's 270-horsepower rating to a slightly more stout 280 hp. But hybrids aren't really about horsepower. Right? The 2011 Highlander's hybrid powertrain boasts an impressive 28 miles per gallon city and 28 mpg highway rating, up from the old numbers of 27 mpg and 25 mpg respectively.

So, what's the cost of admission? The MSRP for the Highlander Hybrid will range from $37,290 for the base model to a wallet-shrinking $42,945 in Limited trim, proving that efficiency in a big vehicle often doesn't come cheap. Hit the jump to discover everything that's new about the 2011 Toyota Highlander.
