Daimler Trucks unveils battery-powered Fuso Canter E-Cell

Mitsubishi Fuso Truck & Bus Corporation (MFTBC), partially owned by Daimler Trucks, is unveiling its Fuso Canter E-Cell, a battery-powered, commercial-duty concept truck at IAA Commercial Vehicles in Hanover this week. The Canter E-Cell boasts a 75-mile range and Daimler believes that the "zero-emissions" vehicle is ideally suited for work in congested urban areas. With its battery pack positioned within the vehicle's frame, the Canter E-Cell chassis cab can be configured to tackle various duties by optioning for flatbed, cargo container or other task-specific setups.

Fuso's last foray into "greener" trucks resulted in the highly successful Canter Eco Hybrid. Nearly 1,000 Eco Hybrid models roam the roads of Japan, Australia, Hong Kong and Ireland and have displayed a fuel savings over their diesel-only counterparts of up to 15 percent in some applications. Daimler claims that the two-ton Canter Eco Hybrid returns 27 miles per gallon (U.S.). Making it the most efficient truck in Japan. Ideally, the Canter E-Cell would join its hybrid sibling, offering commercial fleets an even cleaner option, but for now, it's only a concept . Hit the jump to learn more about the battery-powered Fuso Cantor E-Cell.
